
If there was ever a rockstar in Germany, it was Nina Hagen. Her first album "Nina Hagen Band" is still a very important piece of music ... and lyrics to me. Nina always seemed "real", her punk attitude never forced. She really was (and probably still is) like that. Where other german rockstar wannabees imitated rolemodels, she just was her own punky, unpredictable self.
Teaching some older lady how to masturbate during a talkshow in 1980 resulted in stopping the program and she was all over the press the next day. I remember everybody talking really shocked about it, while I yet didn't know what masturbation was and haven't heard a single song from her. But I felt the controversy and since she was so upsetting to my parents, she became a heroine to me instantly.
And she kept being unpredictable, much to the dismay of people who wanted to make money with her. She is probably the most famous singer without any real hits. Here is a video from 1979 I found somewhere.
